What Makes a Website

Presentation to the LIFE Computer Club, 2016.04.18

The content that gets displayed on a website is presented as HTML (HyperText Markup Language). How it gets displayed is controlled by CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). At its simplest, the author writes the HTML using a WYSIWYG editor, ... and lets the system use its default CSS. The actual website can run on a desktop computer, or a pre-installed Content Management System, or a "raw" web hosting service on which the author installs the CMS of her choice. This presentation will use the open source Seamonkey to develop a desktop webpage, DrupalGardens as the supported CMS, and Drupal as the CMS to install on a "raw" web hosting service.
