Yonge Street Walk

This year I will again be leading a walk along "my" stretch of Yonge Street - between Dundas Square and Yorkville. My wife and I moved downtown almost 15 years ago, to a condo at 25 Maitland Street, just northeast of Yonge & Carlton. I've been a part of our new neighbourhood association - Church Wellesley Neighbourhood Association - since it was formed. In retirement, I spend considerable time on neighbourhood affairs. The big concern is with development. More than 10,000 new condos are slated to be coming onto "my" short stretch of Yonge Street.

There's an opportunity to channel some of that intense development effort into bringing back Yonge Street as "the" downtown promenade street. Yonge Street should be the downtown place where residents and visitors alike come to stroll, to meet friends, to window shop, to pause for a coffee or a meal, or to celebrate or protest. Yonge Street can and should be recognized as the Great Yonge Street. This walk will be about the changes that are coming, and the opportunity this presents.

Those interested can download a one-page map that shows the route of the walk (and shows some of the developments that are coming).
